The Google Phone – Is it for real this time?

by Srikanth on November 18, 2009

After lots of misses in the past, no one would bet on the ‘Google Phone’ rumour again. But from what we are hearing, it may be for real this time.

Google Android

Google will be in full control of designing the phone from top-to-bottom dictating every last bit of it. Motorola Droid has already shown us how incredible the end result can be when Google works closely with hardware manufacturers.

This will definitely help Google improve Android by the insight it has got in designing its own hardware and will also teach other hardware manufactures how to squeeze every last bit of Android’s goodness.

The phone will be manufactured by a major handset manufacturer. Now, the first name that comes to everyone’s mind is HTC, but according to TechCrunch’s sources it will be a Korean manufacturer. Since, Samsung supplies a lot of components for iPhone, Apple may have a say and restrict them from manufacturing Google’s uber-phone. So, that leaves us with LG who will most likely supply the hardware to Google.

Google planned to launch the phone by the holidays, which has been delayed and is now expected to be launched early next year. This is one device everyone will want their hands on!
