When Verizon started putting those ‘iDont’ ads ridiculing iPhone, I thought to myself ‘Oh no, not again!’. But as it turns out, you can’t blame Verizon for trying something like that when they have such a killer device in the form of Droid coming up for sale next week.

Let me explain in brief some of its features:
Speed:
While we have HTC and couple of other manufacturers shipping devices with 1GHz processors which will invariably be fast, Droid impresses in the speed department despite having a seemingly ordinary 550MHz processor (TI OMAP3430). It also features separate PowerVR GPU and 256MB of RAM.
Display:
This device has the largest capacitive screen (3.7 inch, 854 x 480) for any Android handset and it is also one of the best screens on any phone out there. It is very responsive and the pictures look sharp, vibrant, bright – in short, beautiful!
Just below the screen you will find 4 touch sensitive navigation buttons which provide haptic feedback. Though companies like Samsung have already tried this with little success, the ones on Droid are spot on.
Keyboard:
Horizontally sliding qwerty keyboard is ultra thin and quite usable. Though there is little tactile feedback from the keys, the typing is easy and never becomes a pain to use. It also happens to be the slimmest phone with a full qwerty keyboard.
One of the cool accessories available on launch day is the charging dock. This turns the phone into a weather station/ alarm clock. Check this video:
Other specs include GPS, CDMA Rev A., Wi-Fi, a digital magnetometer, accelerometer, 3.5mm headset jack, and microUSB port. A 5 MP autofocus camera with dual-LED flash to put to rest those low light photography nightmares.
Battery:
However, the most amazing thing about the Motorola Droid for me is not one of these awesome features packed in a sleek package but the extra ordinary battery life it manages with all of these features running at the same time. BoyGeniusReport claims it has the best battery life for any Android device!
Motorola’s claim of 6.5 hrs of continuous usage with everything turned on may not be far fetched after all.
So, do we have a winner in Motorola Droid? Hell, yeah!
Is the Droid then, the iPhone beater everyone’s been waiting for?
To answer this, I will quote BoyGeniusReport who has summed it up nicely:
The Droid isn’t an iPhone competitor because nothing at this point in time is an iPhone competitor besides the new iPhone. And things don’t have to be right now. Everyone can eat. So will the Motorola Droid be successful? Absolutely, we think. It will eat in to BlackBerry sales, Windows Mobile sales, and positively murder any lingering Palm Pre sales.
Android 2.0 couldn’t have asked for a better launch than on the Droid. This will put to rest all the naysayers of Android. This may be a beginning of a new era for Android.
