Palm Pre style multitasking on iPhone via ProSwitcher!

by Rohit on December 21, 2009

Last month, we had posted about the MultiFlow app which enables tabbed multitasking on iPhone. We thoroughly enjoyed the app but wished that there was a smoother alternative. Thankfully, ProSwitcher is out which takes multi-tasking on iPhone altogether to a different level.

ProSwitcher iPhone

Here are some of the features of the app:

  • It uses backgrounder in the backend. So, it acts more like a graphical extension to backgrounder.
  • It has a beautiful interface and comes very close to palm pre’s design.
  • If you want to close an app in the background, all you have to do is vertically swipe over it’s preview pane!
  • In the preview mode, the background turns dark so that the preview panes are clearly visible.

Look at the video demo below

Steps to download the ProSwitcher:

1) Tap on Cydia.

2) Choose Manage tab on the bottom of the screen.

3) Select Sources.

4) On the top-right corner you will find edit button, select that and then tap add button. You will be asked to enter a url. Enter http://booleanmagic.com/repo and tap on add sources.

5) Cydia then updates your sources.

6) Once this is done. Tap on search at the bottom of cydia and in the search box look for ProSwitcher Beta

7) Install ProSwitcher Beta.

8 ) Congrats, you just enabled Palm Pre style browsing on your iPhone!

did you used an iphone 3g or 3gs on this video?
when i used to use the multifl0w my iphone started to crash continuously and because of that i stopped using
is this better for the phone performance?

@jonh The video demo is on a 3GS. ProSwitcher is definitely better than multiflow. However, you need to make sure that you don’t open too many applications on a 3G as it has a meagre 128 mb ram. I use at the max 3 applications at the same time while on 3G. On the other hand, iPhone 3GS has 256 mb ram so multiple apps run flawlessly.

Let me also remind you that certain apps (especially games) hog a lot of memory. So it wouldn’t be wise to run other apps in the background with games.

@Rohit Just curious what app you have set up there that showed the time and the weather at the beginning before logging into your phone. Very cool. Thanks.
