First off I would like to say thank you so much to the Dev Team that have made these jailbreak updates possible for us iPhone users.
I currently have an iPhone 3G and it has been jailbroken for sometime, and still is, however I am at a hold point of updating to 3.0 until I am positive that there is a jailbreak update available after I update through iTunes, so i’ll be able to have Cydia. I want to download the correct file to jailbreak my iphone again only from the Dev Team. Can someone please direct me? Thank you so much!

The only thing is, I went into iTunes and hit shift and update and i selected the file and it did everything. now the only problem is, cydia is nowhere on my iPhone. I realize even though my iPhone was previously jailbroken that it was be unjailbroken after the update; however with this jailbreak i just got, shouldn’t it have cydia with it? It is important I get cydia ASAP for my iPhone 3G. I have an important application i have a license for and can only download it through cydia, called mcleaner.

@Ben Don’t worry Ben.. We are all sailing in the same boat.. Even I have paid applications on Cydia like SIAX etc and after updating to 3.0 as expected all the jailbreak functionalities (cydia, installer, cydia apps etc) vanished.. We are all waiting for the dev team to release the new jailbreak tools i.e quickpwn and pwnage so that we can again get cydia and the much need applications back.. We were hoping that the dev team would release it yday but that didn’t happen.. So we are still waiting.. Nevertheless, it should be out real soon. As I said earlier I will let you know the moment it’s out :)..
@Lou The new unlock tool called Ultrasn0w will be available from the dev team on the friday. So yes all of us can get the unlock going on the 19th .. Cheers..
I too had jailbroken my 3g a while back and since upgraded to the 3.0 firmware in hopes of a updated jailbreak. Please email me also when the new jailbreak is out for 3g upgraded to 3.0 firmware. Much thanks
That wasnt a jailbreak you downloaded you moron, that was the updated 3.0 firmware released from apple, the jailbreak for the 3.0 still has not been released yet.
@Jake Yea I figured that out afterwards, and too felt like a idiot. I was confused with all the different results i was getting for google searches etc. Anyways hopefully the jailbreak for 3.0 will be released today as planned.
I thought they said that the jailbreak was released as soon as Apple let the 3.0 update out and the unlock will be out by today (Friday), hopefully we can see the jailbreak any time soon, a heads up will be good if you find it. :)

Rohit, where is the blog you said you posted? Also I have read some things about when you jailbreak your iphone for the 3.0 you won’t have phone access but to make emergency calls, something about the SIMM card or whatever. sorry I am so confused with all that is going on with these different updates and when where and for what OS. and i’m just lost i think. anyways when I download the jailbreak for iphone 3.0 and for windows, (XP) that’ll give me access to cydia and then i’ll have to go in there and download the ultrasn0w. download ultrasn0w will do whatever for me. anyways….
I wish i waited to upgrade to 3.0 because my phone was jailbroken already and now……. hehe.

@Ben It’s true that when you jailbreak 3.0 you wont be able to make calls unless you are using AT&T (US) or o2 (UK).. This is because jailbreak 3.0 needs ultrasn0w (unlock tool) to enable any carrier to work on the iPhone..
& yes u will be able to download ultrasn0w with cydia but ULTRASN0W is NOT OUT YET!
Also there are no jailbreak tools available yet for windows users.

Rohit, thank you again for updating us. I infact use AT&T and I am from Northern California. On my last jailbreak I never went with another carrier. I think it is because AT&T made other cellular services like Verizon Wireless and T-mobile etc… to sign a contract that they wouldn’t allow users with iPhones to get service with them not for 2 or 3 more years. It is just another way of AT&T screwing us iPhone users.
So in my case I won’t need ultrasn0w will I? I think i saw the yellowsnow or whatever it was called installed in my cydia but i never unlocked my iPhone with another carrier.
@Ben Yes you are absolutely right.. Since you are on AT&T and want to use the same carrier, you need not worry about ultrasn0w. You can just go straight ahead and jailbreak. The only problem is since you are on windows, you will have to wait for the dev team to release QUICKPWN – a jailbreaking tool which works on windows.
Once you do this you will have cydia on your iPhone!

Rohit I opened redsn0w but it asks for me to select the corresponding IPSW for my CURRENT firmware. and there is just a browse button, but I dont know where the hell it is. I googled it and the answers dont help me. any ideas? I’m running Windows XP and the IPSW is not in my Aplication Data folder.
Is Redsn0w an actual pwnagetool?? meaing is it the actual file, and only file i need to jailbreak my iPhone 3G 3.0? Because i cannot find the corresponding IPSW for my current firmware.

UPDATE: To people who have problems figuring out how to continue installing redsn0w because it asks for you to locate your IPSW firmware, (i wasn’t able to find mine, in winXP) I went here and downloaded this file: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=30D7BWES
I then proceeded to reopen redsn0w and I used that 230MB file from that link I just posted as the ‘IPSW’ file that redsn0w was asking for.
From then on everything went smoothly, it asked me if i wanted to install cydia and i was like, ‘HELLS YEA!’ …. hehehe…
I now have my mcleaner app back that i downloaded from cydia THANK YOU DEV TEAM! and other than that everything seems great now. Sometimes when i scroll through the menus on my 3G it looks like its gonna go slow but then it regains consciousness …. I hope it doesn’t run slow because its jailbroken. anyways I will be waiting along side the rest of us for the ultrasnow update. I use AT&T so maybe i wont need it.

hi guys i just tried that redsnow im new at all this but i got it to work all i did was search my files for the iphone 3.0 update and copied a copy to my desktop and browsed my desktop and i found the file works great but im still trying to find installous lol. hope this helped
Hi…i ran redsnow and installed Cydia perfectly on my phone…..But how to i unlock it now to use my sim provider….I have an 3g Iphone on at&t carrier and want to use my sim card in europe…..thanks!!
@George The unlock tool i.e ultrasn0w isn’t out yet.. So I am afraid you will have to wait for it to be released if you want to use your european sim.
@jon go to Cydia and add the following source: http://cydia.hackulo.us. You will then find installous for download :)
i downloaded installous and opened it up. When it is open i click on Browse and it is just a white screen. I click the home button in the top left hand corner and it comes up with nothing every time.
Any ideas?

I haven’t seen any post about using 2g iphone with 3.0 firmware. What software to Jailbreak and should i use Redsnow or Ultrasnow to unlock? What version of itunes should i use? And when i unlock my phone for tmobile will i be able to use internet and youtube app. ive heard people say you cant and some say you can? i hope this isnt too much to ask. thanks

On that link you will find the tutorial to use redsn0w on both 2g as well as 3g.
Since you are a 2g user you will be able to unlock your iPhone right within redsn0w.
So software to use: redsn0w.
iTunes version to use: iTunes 8.2
Yes you will be able to use net and youtube.

So you suggest using redsn0w to update to version 3.0? What about Pwnage 3.0? Will either one work? I have a Mac and an unlocked 2G iPhone running v2.2 using T-Mobile. Is redsn0w better/different than Pwnage 3.0?
