FINALLY the dev team has released the jailbreak tools!!! However, its just PwnageTool for Mac OS X so I am afraid Windows users will have to wait. ( For those folks who are confused about which tool they gotta use for windows — You need to look out for QUICKPWN release).
Now some quick do’s and dont’s:
1) If you are currently running your iPhone using Yellowsn0w, then DON’T use the Pwnage tool. Just wait for ultrasn0w(iPhone 3.0 unlock tool) to release on cydia.
2) If you have already updated to 3.0 you can no longer use YellowSn0w since it’s the thing of the past ( works only on previous basebands ). So you gotta wait for ultrasn0w to work with iPhone 3.0.
3) The pwnage tool and ultrasn0w WON’T work on the new iPhone 3GS.

The bottomline : If you don’t care about unlock at the moment and just need to jailbreak to enjoy third party applications via cydia, you can go ahead and jailbreak your phone using Pwnage tool provided you are a mac user. The rest of you will have to wait.

I really dont understand why so many people are saying that pc users have to wait. perhaps there is a fundamental misunderstanding of how this stuff works. Pwnage tool creates a custom/jailbroken ipsw file. so, whil it is correct that only mac users have this ability, it is fortunate for us pc users that many mac users are nice enough to post these files in various places for us to install. I did it this morning, and i am now running jailbroken 3.0 on my 3g. however, i did run into complications. there are activated and unactivated ipsw files out there. if u are an att subscriber like me, you should use the unactivated one. also, for some reason, itunes is giving people errors when they try to restore with these. The trick to getting it to work was to dl quickpwn rc3 and a copy of the 2.02 fw. you then use quick pwn just to put yur phone into a special dfu mode, and close out when yur phone screen goes white. then itunes will restore for u. im gonna do a nice thing and post this around so i can stop reading “pc users have to wait”

Thanks for the above information. Really appreciate it. However, if you jailbroke your iPhone this morning then you could have saved yourself the trouble by just using Redsn0w, the new jailbreak tool for both windows and the mac.

hey i try before to jailbreak my iphone 3g os3 but the file supose to be an ipsw file and is not is only a folder how can i do ?
How do i use ultrasn0w if im already using yellowsn0w? Do I have to re-jailbreak my phone or do i just download ultrasn0w from cydia then get on itunes and upgrade to 3.0? Please help.
