Here’s the tutorial on how to unlock your iPhone using BlackSnow
NOTE: The Blackra1n jailbreak and Blacksn0w unlock tutorial below is for Windows users.
If you are a Mac user: Click here 
If you already have blackra1n app installed on your iPhone (and haven’t deleted it yet), then jump directly to step 11.
Requirements:
- iPhone OS 3.1.2.
- Windows Operating System.
Here are the steps to jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.2 using Blackra1n and unlock your iPhone using Blacksn0w
- 1) Click on the url http://www.blackra1n.com. You will see the following image . Click on the shiny windows logo just above the donate button.
2) On the following screen, click on save file
3) Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double click on Blackra1n.exe
4) Make sure your iPhone or iPod is connected to the computer then click on make it ra1n button.
5) Your device will now enter recovery mode. (If itunes opens telling you you need to restore because your device is in recovery mode, just click ok, then close down itunes)
6) Click OK when you get the following screen
7) Then your iPhone will display GeoHot’s picture and restart automatically and a blackra1n icon will appear on your iPhone. Please make sure you are connected to the net and then click on the application.
8 )Select the installer application (Choose Cydia or Rock) that you prefer and press the install button at the top right corner of your screen.
9)BlackRa1n will automatically download and install the package you selected.
10) Congrats you just jailbroke your iPhone using Blackra1n. Kudos to GeoHot!
11) To UNLOCK your iPhone tap on Sn0w button inside Blackra1n app and let Blacksn0w automatically unlock your iPhone.
NOTE: If you see ra1n button instead of Sn0w , then first tap on ra1n to upgrade your Blackra1n app. After upgrading, run blackra1n app again. You will see sn0w. Install it.
12) Hurray! You just unlocked your iPhone :)

Some People get the “Post install log for sn0w” error when they install cydia and rock at the same time.
Close blackra1n and Run the blacksnow install again without installing bothwith cydia/rock. Just choose Cydia and Sn0w within the Blackra1n app.. Then it should work.

@Stugok If you have done things right your Wifi should work.
After restoring your iPhone via iTunes to 3.1.2 did you set up your iPhone as NEW PHONE? you are NOT suppose to set it up from backup.
Restore your iPhone to 3.1.2 again.. set it up as new Phone and run the Blackra1n and Blacksn0w again and if you do things right it should work.
Thanks for those words, but how do I restore my iphone to os 3.1.2 and how do I set it as “NEW PHONE”. My WIFI is now able to connect to the internet, I have cydia and Blackra1n on my iphone, I have ran sn0w to unlock my iphone and I believe the iphone is unlocked, but when my phone searches for network it came back and say “No Sim” what are my doing wrong. My iphone is os 3.1(7C144) when I tried to upgrade to 3.1.2 i get (1602)error code. What should I do now.

Please I need your urgent help. I was restoring iphone from iTune, after the restore, the phone requested for the Sim Card, I inserted it my T-Mobile Sim card, and the phone came back saying “NO SIM card installed, insert a valid Sim with no lock to activate iphone.” and stuck there. When I tapped the circled “i” it said, IMEI: number and ICCID:unknown and the no Sim card installed won’t go away. Please I need a way forward.

i am buying a iphone jailbroken and updated to 3.1.2 with baseband updated to 5.11.07 . I am completely confused on this unlocking/baseband issue .An iphone with 3.1.2. and baseband updated to 5.11.07 can be unlocked now right? and if yes then what are the 2 softwares reqd to update and unlock it . dont give me a website hyperlink as there is too much conflicting info out there .

@Vishal Yes! geohot’s jailbreak tool blackra1n and unlock tool blacksn0w will work for 3.1.2 firmware and 5.11.07 baseband.
Just follow the tutorial in the above post and it should all work fine. And if you are worried abt battery issues.. Jst charge your iPhone battery to 90-100% and follow the guide above.
It’s that simple.

I have a little problem. I get an Iphone from a German friend, and this one is blocked on his Network, so i decided to use blackra1n to unlock it.
Everything works.
But…
My problem is that when i turn off the Iphone, and turn on again, the Iphone show me to connect to itunes.
Why does it do like this?
So i put it on itunes with my dock and than i have to blackra1n it again… Grrrr
So please if someone can tell me what’s going on!!

I have sucessfully unlocked my 3gs iphone running on 3.1.2 firmware, however everytime I turn my iphone off and back on,the itunes logo would appear. I then must plug in my phone to the computer to get it back up and running to the main screen. Anybody have the same problem? I need help! Suggestions? Thank you!

@Kim If your iPhone gets stuck on ‘connect to itunes screen’ everytime you reboot it or when the battery drains out. Then read this post. It will explain you why exactly it’s happening

@Sandeep Yes, you can unlock using Blacksn0w. To use Blacksn0w you must first jailbreak your iPhone using Blackra1n.

Hello there. Forgive me for this. I am a new iPhone user. I was given an iPhone 3G 8GB on O2. model for some SEO work I done for a mobile phone recycling company. As soon as I got the phone I turned it on and started playing around with it, even took it online from my own wifi network at home. Anyway I downloaded iTunes and added the iPhone and created an iTunes account etc. And I think iTunes updated the iPhone and its firmware to the latest version. (fair enough). But now I have the greyed out wifi in settings!
Tried to use blackra1n to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone but you need wifi working on the iPhone to do that! I’ve been reading around and this seems a common problem that is a nightmare for many people! Some get it solved, some don’t. But there’s been talk of downgrading the firmware using a previous version of iTunes and using a custom IPSW file which is what I’m trying to do but keep getting “incompatible ispw” or something when I try selecting it from shift/restore in iTunes when iPhone is in recovery mode. (I’ve learned how to put it into DFU & Recovery mode since this)
Anyway this is still happening as I write this. I really wish I could get blackra1n to work so I can unlock the phone from O2 to use another carrier I have unlimited internet with. So at least the phone will have some worthwhile functionality for me. But will still try to get the greyed out wifi problem fixed as well. But I’ve also heard that it may be an actual hardware and not software problem this “greyed out wifi” problem. I hope not and will endeavour to find out.
Anyway, is there any other way of using blackra1n without the iPhones wifi working? Or what is another simple jailbreaking/unlocking software?

Anyways here are the possible solutions:
Resolution
First, sync your iPhone or iPod touch to iTunes in order to backup your user info, Contacts, Calendar, and other data. Then, try the following steps in order.
Step One
On the device, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Check to see if the device now displays the Wi-Fi address (tap Settings > General > About and scroll down to Wi-Fi Address). If there is a Wi-Fi Address, then you’re done with these steps and can resync your settings and your media using iTunes.
If there’s still no Wi-Fi Address, then continue to Step Two.
Step Two
On the device, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Check to see if the device now displays the Wi-Fi address (tap Settings > General > About and scroll down to Wi-Fi Address). If there is a Wi-Fi Address, then you’re done with these steps and can resync your settings and your media using iTunes.
If there’s still no Wi-Fi Address, then continue to Step Three.
Step Three
1. Restore the iPhone or iPod touch software (this erases all data on the device) using iTunes (see article 305744 for additional assistance).
2. After the restore is complete, sync your previous settings (mail settings, text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, etc.).
3. Now verify if your device shows a Wi-Fi address (tap Settings > General > About and scroll down to Wi-Fi Address).
If there is a Wi-Fi address, then you’re done with these steps. If there is no Wi-Fi address, then continue to Step Four.
Step Four
If there is no Wi-Fi address listed after doing the above steps, then your iPhone or iPod touch may need to be repaired(Hardware failure). See the iPhone Service FAQ or iPod Service FAQ for additional service information.
Note: If the device shows an address in the Wi-Fi Address field and you are still having issues using Wi-Fi, refer to article 305715 for additional Wi-Fi troubleshooting tips.

Hey man thanks for your assistance. I’ve seen those help steps before and tried them to no avail. I’ve gone to your link at http://bit.ly/ZZ9ix to install blackra1n WITHOUT wifi but I just end up clicking more and more and more links to do this and do this before you do this etc etc.
For instance it says ” First of all jailbreak your iPhone 3G 3GS 3.1.2 with pwnage tool so you can access file system of iPhone. Follow our previous guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G 3GS on Windows with custom firmware.”
So I click that link and it shows a list if you’re eligible for Pwnage tool or not and I don’t think I am. I have an iPhone 3G 3.1.2. But that’s not in the list. Or does 3.1 mean it covers 3.1.2 anyway?
Also it says to download some iPhone 3G 3.1.2 Custom Firmware from Google. err ok only 132,000 results for iPhone 3G 3.1.2 Custom Firmware. :/ Oh man.
Then I need Diskaid but that’s not free is it? I’m not trying to make this harder for myself honest. But I gotta say this is well overwhelming. The amount of software I’ve downloaded is crazy.
Anyway so to do an offline unlock I first need to jailbreak the phone but to do that I need the Dev team Pwnage Tool or something. And I’ve got to get a custom firmware version. 3.1.2 I take it? Extremely frustrating and confusing. And I’m not a complete PC noob. Am thinking of trying one of the iPhone unlockers from one of your Google ads.

Hope you crack it and come up with something that works and gets the wifi working again. I know it’s a software and not hardware reason.

I had successfully jailbroken and unlocked my iphone 3gs 3.1.2 using blackra1n and ultrasn0w. It was working fine with another service provider. But while I was trying to send a text message, the iphone suddenly got off (i mean the screen is blacked out as if its turned off). I tried to restart it several times and even putting it under restore mode. Nothing worked. When I plugged my iphone through usb into the computer, its not being recognized. So even Itunes restore is not working. When I am tried to put the phone in silent mode using the side switch, the red dot for silent mode is coming. I am not sure what has went wrong. Please help me out with this.

I was not able downgrade to previous versions (2.2.5, 1.1.4) as well.

I have encountered a problem though. I have jailbroken using blackra1n, but when I click on the blackra1n app on my iphone it only comes up with Cydia and Rock (not the sn0w one that allows me to unlock the phone). Any ideas where I’m going wrong? Any advice would be most appreciated. I’m a complete noob when it comes to stuff like this so be gentle with me!

@Will Did you download the blackra1n app from blackra1n.com or somewhere else. The previous version of Blackra1n didn’t contain the blacksn0w(unlock) solution. Just download from blackra1n.com and you will be fine.
@Sayan You mean blacksn0w and not ultrasn0w rite. And your problem is rather strange. Did you try to use it on another computer or OS. It should be detectable. Are u atleast getting the connect to itunes screen?

Retried it, still no joy :-( It does exactly the same thing, all works fine but doesn’t give me the sn0w option. Anyone else had a similar problem? Maybe the snow part is down for maintenance?

Ya.. its blackra1n. I didn’t try any other system. My iphone is not being detected by itunes. I am even not getting the connect to itunes screen. But if I keep the iphone connected through usb / AC power, I can feel the iphone is hot. Maybe because its charging.
I tried to put the iphone in restore mode so many times. Nothing happened… :(
