Wohooo! BlackSn0w is out and it’s ready to give an end to the ‘Oh I am stuck on 5.11.07 baseband’ misery. Yes folks, the iPhone is finally unlockable again!
Here’s the tutorial on how to unlock your iPhone using BlackSnow
NOTE: The Blackra1n jailbreak and Blacksn0w unlock tutorial below is for Windows users.
If you are a Mac user: Click here 
If you already have blackra1n app installed on your iPhone (and haven’t deleted it yet), then jump directly to step 11.
Requirements:
- iPhone OS 3.1.2.
- Windows Operating System.
Here are the steps to jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.2 using Blackra1n and unlock your iPhone using Blacksn0w
- 1) Click on the url http://www.blackra1n.com. You will see the following image . Click on the shiny windows logo just above the donate button.
2) On the following screen, click on save file
3) Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double click on Blackra1n.exe
4) Make sure your iPhone or iPod is connected to the computer then click on make it ra1n button.
5) Your device will now enter recovery mode. (If itunes opens telling you you need to restore because your device is in recovery mode, just click ok, then close down itunes)
6) Click OK when you get the following screen
7) Then your iPhone will display GeoHot’s picture and restart automatically and a blackra1n icon will appear on your iPhone. Please make sure you are connected to the net and then click on the application.
8 )Select the installer application (Choose Cydia or Rock) that you prefer and press the install button at the top right corner of your screen.
9)BlackRa1n will automatically download and install the package you selected.
10) Congrats you just jailbroke your iPhone using Blackra1n. Kudos to GeoHot!
11) To UNLOCK your iPhone tap on Sn0w button inside Blackra1n app and let Blacksn0w automatically unlock your iPhone.
NOTE: If you see ra1n button instead of Sn0w , then first tap on ra1n to upgrade your Blackra1n app. After upgrading, run blackra1n app again. You will see sn0w. Install it.
12) Hurray! You just unlocked your iPhone

@Sayan Ghosh You have a hardware problem and I am afraid the only solution is getting it replaced at the apple store. Check these forums where they have discussed about the same prob before.

Hi,
I am buying a factory unlocked 3g from australia which has been jailbroken . Can a factory unlocked iphone 3g be restored to its “unjailbroken “state . if yes, then what data will i lose if i unjailbreak it?
i want ot be able to update the software in the future without any hassles so do i need to ” unjaibreak it ” to do that or keep it the way it is . i.e jailbroken.

@Vish Factory unlocked iPhone simply means that the iPhone can be used on any carrier of your choice(AT&T,o2, Vodafone, Sprint, BSNL etc…) without having to make any kind of modifications. (It’s a hardware thingy.. The hardware supports any sim out-of-the-box.
Since there are no software modifications on it. The iPhone hasn’t been jailbroken. So the question of unjailbreaking it doesn’t arise.
You can update to the latest firmware(3.1.2) in a blink of an eye without worrying that you will lose the unlock i.e ability to use any sim.
Dont ever worrying about unlocking your factory unlocked phone. Jst install blackrain from the above tutorial to jailbreak it.
Note: Please make sure it’s a genuine factory unlocked phone and not one werein an additional sim has to be inserted with your carrier sim for unlock to work.
I am having an issue after I jailbreak and unlock. If I reboot my new 3GS, I have to jailbreak it again or it just shows the connect to iTunes symbol. I did read someplace that any of the new 3GS iPhones with a 41 or above in the 4 and 5 position of the serial number, this may happen? Is there a fix for that issue?
@Katy I am afraid you will have to do it every time you reboot katty. This is because your iPhone needs tethered jailbreak. Read the following post it will answer all your questions.

i bought a new 3gs pdated to baseband 5.11.07 version 3.1.2
when i click on cydia or rock application it asks me to update the application . i have no idea what the update it is . it says update ” fully featured community APT installer “. when i click on update it says that the application is not tested and blah blah blah . what should i do . i do not want to screw up my iphone but everytime i goto cydia to download an app , i get this pop up saying changes have been made to cydia and rock and i should update .

Also wanted to ask , everytime cydia or rock asks for updating is it safe to update . i can’t understand any of the tech msgs that cydia comes up with when it asks me to update to changes made in cydia…and when i open cydia there is a msg on top of my screen ” this device has SHSHs on file for iphone 3.1.2 ” what does that mean ?
will installing any application from cydia/rock cause any problems . i have a 3gs updated to 3.1.2. i am itching to download the applications on cydia and rock but am extremely worried that i might mess it all up . pls help .
@Vishal It’s perfectly safe to update.. Don’t worry about it.. & u wont screw up nthin on your phone.. So relax..
Always remember even if u do screw up your jailbreak(Just in case), then you can always restore your iPhone using iTunes and rejailbreak using the above tutorial.

can anyone pls help me on removing an “unsigned APN ” configured via iphone config utility.

initially all was well but after nstalling “push fix for youtube ” via cydia , the APN comes up as “unsigned ” and cannot be removed via iphone config utilty as well. i have lost my gprs connection too. can anyone please provide instructions on how to get this “unsigned” APN issue resolved. I also tried unlockit.co.nz to install a new APN but I need to remove this unsigned APN first . help.

Hi! i already unlocked my iphone 3gs using blackra1n (tutorial above). it works pretty well, but when i turned off my iphone and turn it on again it will go back to being locked. is this really normal? everytime i will restart my iphone it will go back on being locked? is there any solution? if my phone goes battery empty i will need to reconnect it to my computer. pls help me with my problem. i have a 3g 3.1.2 iphone i jailbreak it but somereason it looks like snow installed but when i put my tmobile card all i get is searching and no service i already turned 3g on and off position it didnt work can u pls help me to solve the problem i tried several times still same no service for somereason

@Brad Yes some iPhone users have problems with Youtube after jailbreaking. Fortunately, there is an easy fix for it

I’m having the same problem as lou. Whenever I open Black Rain, and try to have it load the installers, it says to “Please check your internet connection( Err…..)”. Yet I’m fully connected to the Wi Fi, and can access Safari, and surf the net??? What gives??? I installed Black Rain on my old man Iphone, and didn’t have this issue can anybody help???
when i did mine about a month ago it worked i did have my iphone hooked up to my computer with the wire. dont know of how much of a difference that makes but thats what i did.

I have a iPhone 3G, network locked with ATT, USA. If I unlock the phone using Black Snow would it run on MTNL network in Mumbai, India. And do I need to have the SIM card with me to do a successful unlock. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no solution to your tethered jailbreak at the moment. It’s a feature not a problem. Tethered jailbreak means that you have to plug your phone to computer and use blackra1n to jump start the boot process. Your phone probably has the new bootrom.
