How to unlock iPhone 3G 3.1 using ultrasn0w!

by Rohit on September 17, 2009

NOTE: For the time being, this tutorial is only for Mac users. I will definitely update all the posts, once dev team releases the Windows jailbreak tool (redsn0w).

1) Jailbreak your iPhone 3G 3.1 using PwnageTool 3.1.
Here is the tutorial:Link. (Like I said MAC users only)

2) Once you have jailbroken your iPhone, tap on cydia.

3) Then Tap on manage tab at the bottom and choose sources.

4) On the top-right corner you will find edit button, select that and then tap add button. You will be asked to enter a url. Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and tap on add sources. (That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.)

5) Cydia then updates your sources.

6) Once this is done. Tap on search at the bottom of cydia and in the search box look for ultrasn0w.(0 in the word is number zero and not letter o).

7) Now select ultrasn0w and install it. (T-Mobile users should disable 3G before installing ultrasnow).

8) Restart your iPhone.

9) Congrats now your iPhone is not alone jailbroken but also unlocked. Use any carrier of your choice :)

i tried it , but its going through “searching…” for a long time , and then it gives me NO SERVICE . any suggestions ? thanks

Rohit September 24, 2009 at 6:37 pm

@Kamel Which baseband(modem) firmware are you on. To find this out go to

SETTINGS > GENERAL > ABOUT > MODEM FIRMWARE

If you are on 05.11.07 baseband, your unlock won’t work. However, if you are on 04.26.08 I suggest you check this forum out

i tried to unlock my iphone 3g 3.1 . and its also going through searching n then ends with no service . right now my phone is on 5.11.07 baseband . please help me out with any solution to this problem

Rohit September 27, 2009 at 5:50 am

@Baneet I am afraid there is no solution as of now. Like many users, you have updated to 3.1 firmware directly via iTunes. That’s the reason your modem(baseband) firmware has also been updated from 04.26.08 to 05.11.07. Updating baseband causes the iPhone to lose it’s unlock ability. Hope Dev team are working on some kinda solution either to downgrade the firmware or similar kinda fix. Will let you know when there is any such solution available.

Meanwhile you can also check this link. It offers a downgrade solution but it work on very FEW iPhones(with 05.08 (5.8) Bootloader). It’s worth giving a shot.

Hi Dhaval

Sorry for the late reply. The site was down thanks to my pathetic web hosting provider -Just Host. Anyways coming to your question.

If you have updated your iPhone 3G or 3GS to 3.1 firmware , you will either be on 04.26.08 or 05.11.07 modem (baseband) firmware.

Please go to settings > General > About on your iPhone and then check the modem firmware number. If it is 04.26.08, then you can still unlock your iPhone. However, if it’s 05.11.07; you won’t be able to unlock your iPhone and will get the no service error.

Okay. I’ve updated to this 05.11.07 Baseband and the bootloader that won’t allow me to use FuzzyBand. How long do you think until there is something to get around this ?

Sheeba October 12, 2009 at 8:12 am

Okay. So I saw that the unlock wont work on my version of the iphone but I already went through the process. Now my phone is still “Searching” for a network. Can you please tell me what to do now?? I am freaking out.

I have updated my iPhone 3G to 3.1.2 firmware , my iphone is one 05.11.07 modem (baseband) firmware. How long it will take to get unlock this firmware 3.1 with 05.11.07 baseband modem firmware???????

Rohit October 12, 2009 at 5:23 pm

@Sheeba I am afraid that there is nothing I can do to help as of now if you are on 05.11.07 modem (baseband) firmware. Just keep your fingers crossed and hope that the iPhone Dev Team releases an unlock tool soon. Will keep you updated.
