Look no further then, GreenPoison has released their untethered iPhone jailbreak tool which means you can now have a jailbreak without the fear of getting stuck on apple logo every time you restart your iPhone. The jailbreak works specifically on iPhone 4.2.1.
Here are the instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone using GreenPois0n jailbreak tool
1) You got to make sure that you are on 4.2.1 firmware as the jailbreak wont work for any other firmware version.
2) Head to GreenPois0n website and download the jailbreak tool.
3) Connect your iPhone to the PC/Mac using the USB cable.
4) Open the downloaded GreenPois0n jailbreak tool and click on the jailbreak button that you see on it.
5) The moment you click the jailbreak button, you will be provided instructions to put your iPhone in DFU mode.
- You will be asked to press and hold the sleep (power) button for 3 seconds.
- Continue holding sleep; press and hold home for 10 seconds.
- Release sleep button; Continue holding the home button. Make sure you don’t release the Home button at this point.
6) Once your iPhone successfully enters DFU mode, the jailbreak process will begin automatically.
7) Once the jailbreak process is complete, you will see a loader icon on your iPhone. Tap on it and install cydia.
8) After installation, restart your iPhone and then run Cydia.
9) Congrats, you have just jailbroken your iPhone :)

iPhone 3G is not supported, only 3GS (and iPod 3). Use redsn0w for iPhone 3G.
