How to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4/3GS!

by Rohit on August 4, 2010

The long awaited unlock for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS is finally out! Kudos to the iPhone Dev-Team for re-creating their magic unlock tool – UltraSn0w.

In order to unlock your iPhone, i.e. enable it to work on any carrier/network, you will have to jailbreak it. Jailbreaking used to be a painstaking process in the past; however, now it’s just a cake walk.

All you gotta do is visit jailbreakme.com via safari on your iPhone. Once on the site, just slide to jailbreak your iPhone.

Slide to jailbreak

Once you are done jailbreaking your iPhone, follow the guide below to unlock it

1) Tap on cydia.

2) Then Tap on manage tab at the bottom and choose sources

3) On the top-right corner you will find edit button, select that and then tap add button. You will be asked to enter a url. Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and tap on add sources. (That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.)

4) Cydia then updates your sources.

5) Once this is done. Tap on search at the bottom of cydia and in the search box look for ultrasn0w.(0 in the word is number zero and not letter o).

6) Now select ultrasn0w and install it. (T-Mobile users should disable 3G before installing ultrasnow).

7) Reboot your iPhone.

8) Congrats, you have now unlocked your iPhone! Just pop in any networks sim into your iPhone and you should be good to go.

If for some reason you still can’t make any sense outta the tutorial, just check the video below to get a better idea.

I used jailbreakme and then ultrasn0w but when I plug my wife’s TMobile SIM (from HTC) the iPhone gets her phone number, but is says no service- should I just be able to plug in the SIM and be up?
