Wohooo Jailbreak tool for windows is finally out!!!Its redsn0w. Please Note: This works even on the MAC.
1) Restore your iPhone OS to 3.0 firmware by using itunes 8.2. Here is the link to 3.0 firmware ipsw file. Once you are done downloading it, hold shift and click on restore from your iTunes (mac users: alt/option key + click on restore) and navigate to the ipsw file you just downloaded in order to restore your iPhone to 3.0 firmware. (Note: Use firefox/internet explorer and not safari to download the ipsw file, if not it will be downloaded as a ZIP file instead of IPSW)
2) Download Redsn0w (jailbreaking tool for windows) from any of the windows links on http://blog.iphone-dev.org/. I used
http://72.14.179.250/Downloads/redsn0w-win_0.7.1.zip.
Mac users download Redsnow from here:

3) Once you are done downloading, launch it and you will get the following screen. Now browse to the Original iPhone firmware OS 3.0 .ipsw file. If you haven’t already got it, you can download it from here. (Note: iPhone 2G users please check below for the ipsw link )
4) Redsn0w then checks if the .ipsw is valid. Click next.
5) Now redsn0w will automatically patch the original file. Click next when done.
6) i) On the following screen Check on Install Cydia option to jailbreak .
ii)Check on “Unlock” ONLY IF you are an iPhone 2G user to unlock.
(Reminder : iPhone 3g users please check on ONLY “install cydia” option)
7) On the following screen iPhone 2g users can provide the path to bl39.bin and bl46.bin files. iPhone 3g users press next and skip this step. (NOTE: iPhone 2G users please find the bl39.bin and bl46.bin files below)
8) On the following screen make sure that your iPhone is PLUGGED IN to the computer AND switched OFF and click “Next”.
9) Now the part where you have to pay rapt attention: On the next screen you will be presented with a set of instructions. Follow them carefully:
i) Hold “Power” button for 2 seconds
ii)Then while holding the Power button, you will now have to hold Home button too for 10 seconds.
iii)Then release Power button but keep holding Home button for about 30 seconds i.e till the installation begins.
10) The Jailbreak process will now begin. Once it’s done, the iPhone will reboot on its own and you will find cydia on it.
11) Congrats you have just jailbroken your dear iPhone :)
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR iPhone 2G USERS:
Please use this ipsw file in step 3:
You will also need the following bootloader files in step 7
BL 3.9 : http://iphonefreakz.com/firmware/BL-39.bin
BL 4.6 : http://iphonefreakz.com/firmware/BL-46.bin
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINDOWS 7 USERS : I tried jailbreak on WINDOWS 7 but redsn0w kept crashing. So I ran it in compatibility mode for windows xp and then ran it as an administrator. It worked!. Here’s how you do it
i) Right Click on Redsnow.exe
ii) Click on Properties
iii )Switch to Compatibility tab on the top.
iv) Check ” Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP ”
v) Start the application by right clicking on redsn0w. exe file and click on run as administrator

I was able to jailbreak my 3g iPhone using the steps above with Cydia installed on the springboard but noticed that there are default icons/apps missing like camera, stocks, calculator, weather, and notes. I also noticed that my free apps from the App Store, Cydia, and Installous are missing as well, which is known since jailbreaking a new OS will wipe out previous jailbroken apps. So I downloaded Appsync but nothing happened…no icon or options for Appsync or missing icon/apps reappearing.
I did test downloading a free app from the App Store successfully and also from Cydia. Both Apps show on the springboard and work fine.
I did have my 3g iPhone jailbroken with the previous OS using Quickpwn if that matters. I also used categories to organize my app in folders if that matters too.
Has anyone experience the same issues?
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this?
If not, do you think I should go into settings and select “erase all content and settings” and jailbreak it again and manually download apps again?

I unlocked my 2G Iphone using redsn0w and everything worked fine except the battey dies real fast. Last two nights I charged for about 8 hours but later in the day around 2PM battery died completely. and that’s without really using it. what’s wrong with? How can I fix it? Also, the camcorder Icon doesn’t show? Thank you.

I had to re-download BossPrefs from Cydia (not sure what happened to it from previous jailbroken OS). Then in BossPrefs go to Hide Icons (poofs) and the icons were all turned OFF. After turning them back on and then selected Respring. All my icons/apps are now present on my springboard.
everytime i download the 3.0 firmware it shows up as a zip and cannot be found by redsnow. why? im on iphone 3g

Will this work on the “newer” macbooks? I know another set of new macbooks came out, but I’m asking about the first set of macbooks that disabled the iPhone from entering DFU mode. (I guess confirmation on whether the newest macbooks work with redsn0w would be helpful too)

@Dave As predicted by the Dev Team, missing option to use DFU mode in Mac OS X 10.5.6 has been a bug. It is fixed now in Mac OS X 10.5.7. Use the internal Software Update function and update to 10.5.7 and you’ll be able to get into DFU mode again
So dave ur solution is to internally update to 10.5.7 and use redsn0w. U wont have any problems..

hey guys, havin issues with jailbreaking my iphone 3g. my computer is running vista, and ive gone through the process twice, and both times everything went smoothly until the “waiting for reboot” screen, at which point vista informed me that redsn0w had “stopped working” and it was “diagnosing the problem” etc, etc. a friend of mine who is running xp jailbroke his phone with this program no problem, could it have anything to do with vista?
I am totally blown-away! Just updated iPhone 3G /f3.0 on Mac Dual G4 Tower in around 15 minutes with redsn0w. The last time I updated an iPhone 3G /f2.1 with pwnageTool it toook me 3 hours or so restoring, etc. and I had to reposition my apps on 9 screens. holy crap! thanks DEV-TEAM!!!

i just typed the tag onto the end of the file before i hit save and it worked for me. type .ipsw after the filename
of course redsnow still wont work on either of the computers in my house

I jailbroke my iphone 3G running the OS 3.0 and started having a problem sending meeting invitations though microsoft outlook 2003. The problem is I send a invite and them multiple invites are sent over and over to all the invitees. Also, the text in the invites becomes corrupted once the duplicates begin sending themselves. I had IT pull my email log and all the duplicates have the apple iphone tag leading them to believe it is the iphone having sync issues with the exchange server. Has anyone experienced this? Could the jailbreak have caused this?

Hey there some how when I get to step 3 i doesnt show option for unlock it only shows install cydia and icy. HELP !!! this is as far as i could get with this Iphone 3g. However I managed to jailbreak my other Iphone 3g with the same process only thing is I think it was factory unlocked so it didnt need to be unlocked only jailbroken. Please advise,
