Wohooo Jailbreak tool for windows is finally out!!!Its redsn0w. Please Note: This works even on the MAC.
1) Restore your iPhone OS to 3.0 firmware by using itunes 8.2. Here is the link to 3.0 firmware ipsw file. Once you are done downloading it, hold shift and click on restore from your iTunes (mac users: alt/option key + click on restore) and navigate to the ipsw file you just downloaded in order to restore your iPhone to 3.0 firmware. (Note: Use firefox/internet explorer and not safari to download the ipsw file, if not it will be downloaded as a ZIP file instead of IPSW)
2) Download Redsn0w (jailbreaking tool for windows) from any of the windows links on http://blog.iphone-dev.org/. I used
http://72.14.179.250/Downloads/redsn0w-win_0.7.1.zip.
Mac users download Redsnow from here:

3) Once you are done downloading, launch it and you will get the following screen. Now browse to the Original iPhone firmware OS 3.0 .ipsw file. If you haven’t already got it, you can download it from here. (Note: iPhone 2G users please check below for the ipsw link )
4) Redsn0w then checks if the .ipsw is valid. Click next.
5) Now redsn0w will automatically patch the original file. Click next when done.
6) i) On the following screen Check on Install Cydia option to jailbreak .
ii)Check on “Unlock” ONLY IF you are an iPhone 2G user to unlock.
(Reminder : iPhone 3g users please check on ONLY “install cydia” option)
7) On the following screen iPhone 2g users can provide the path to bl39.bin and bl46.bin files. iPhone 3g users press next and skip this step. (NOTE: iPhone 2G users please find the bl39.bin and bl46.bin files below)
8) On the following screen make sure that your iPhone is PLUGGED IN to the computer AND switched OFF and click “Next”.
9) Now the part where you have to pay rapt attention: On the next screen you will be presented with a set of instructions. Follow them carefully:
i) Hold “Power” button for 2 seconds
ii)Then while holding the Power button, you will now have to hold Home button too for 10 seconds.
iii)Then release Power button but keep holding Home button for about 30 seconds i.e till the installation begins.
10) The Jailbreak process will now begin. Once it’s done, the iPhone will reboot on its own and you will find cydia on it.
11) Congrats you have just jailbroken your dear iPhone :)
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR iPhone 2G USERS:
Please use this ipsw file in step 3:
You will also need the following bootloader files in step 7
BL 3.9 : http://iphonefreakz.com/firmware/BL-39.bin
BL 4.6 : http://iphonefreakz.com/firmware/BL-46.bin
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WINDOWS 7 USERS : I tried jailbreak on WINDOWS 7 but redsn0w kept crashing. So I ran it in compatibility mode for windows xp and then ran it as an administrator. It worked!. Here’s how you do it
i) Right Click on Redsnow.exe
ii) Click on Properties
iii )Switch to Compatibility tab on the top.
iv) Check ” Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP ”
v) Start the application by right clicking on redsn0w. exe file and click on run as administrator

@Jorano Seems like the jailbreak process went wrong in your case.. It’s best if you restore your iPhone again and jailbreak it. I know its tedious to go over it again.. But that’s ur best bet to get cydia to work..

@jos Whoa that’s terrible.. seems like u r at the mercy of dev team now.. They will be releasing the software unlock (ultrasn0w) very soon.. You will have to wait.. Most ppl using turbo sim hvnt updated to 3.0 and a selected few who have gone ahead with the update are waiting for ultrasn0w.. Dont worry it will b out soon and you will have your phone up and running!
Hey Rohit Just unlocked my iphone! thanks so much> only problems are that i have tmobile and have a blackberry internet service. When i try and use youtube, safari or mail it tells me i dont have a data plan and then says no sim card. when i reboot it comes back up with tmobile. Is there a setting i need to get online? i can make calls and send/receive texts fine. thanks cojo

@Vitarelis I dont see that happening before 20th july.. the dev team had announced that they wud release the unlock tool – ultrasn0w for iphone 3G by 19th July and that hasn’t happened yet.. So I feel 3GS is a far cry atleast for the moment..
However, you never knw the dev team may have a surprise in store :).. will keep u updated.

BUT it says that the baseband cannot be altered so I don’t think it will be of any help.
Your best bet as of now is to wait for the release of ultrasn0w!

First Update/Restore your iPhone OS to the latest firmware 3.0 on your iPhone by using iTunes 8.2 . and then follow these steps.

This tutorial is written for iPod Touch using Windows Vista (Via iPodTouchFans)
Step 1: Download redsn0w from http://rapidshare.com/files/24657886…0w-win_0.7.zip
Step 2: Extract the files and put them into a folder on your desktop called redsn0w
Step 3: Locate your IPSW file for 3.0. It should be located at
C:\Users\*USERNAME8\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
Step 4: Copy this file into the redsnow folder on your desktop
Step 5: Put your iPod into DFU mode and connect it to iTunes. To enter DFU mode, turn your ipod off and then hold the lock and home button for 10 seconds, then let go of the lock button while holding the home button
Step 6: Drag the IPSW onto redsn0w.exe
Step 7: Let it do its thing
Step 8: Enjoy

hey rohit sorry to bother you but…
i figured what to do and jailbroke my itouch. i push on cydia and i wait couple seconds and all the sudden it goes to my springboard.
can you help me out?
@petah I assume you have already restarted your iPhone several times and still faced the same issue..
There are several reasons this might be happening
i) After installing cydia did you install any applications from inside.. Some application may be causing it to crash.
ii)After jailbreaking did you use AptBackup To Restore previously Installed Cydia Applications.

@petah if none of the above helped the only solution will be to restore your device (not update) and jailbreak. I know it’s a tedious process but am afraid it’s the only way out.

Hey one question I have Imac and Iphone 3G currently with new software 3.0 , But if I download the firmware files which one do I have to choose, I mean What is the file’s name and in what folder is it ?
Please help me out because I wanna to jailbreak my Iphone real bad but can you garantee that nothing goes wrong and that I have to go to the repairshop afterwards for fixing it ??

I figured out what the problem was since I have Imac and IPSW files are automatically opened with Itunes I couldn’t locate the files on my computer, so I downloaded it in Firefox because Safari sends the files automatically to Itunes. Now it worked. So for Mac Users please download Firefox first because it allows you to save the file on a other location instead of automatically opening them to open with Itunes choose save file. And the file will be saved on your desktop
Just followed the instructions straight thru, now i have Jailedbreak my iPhone 3G 3.0…Super thanks Rohit and everyone who gave feedback!

Hi Kiet.. Please wait for ultrasn0w to release inorder to use T-mobile.. Many turbo sim users have gone ahead with the 3.0 update and are now regretting the act. To be on a safer side just wait for the dev team to release ultrasn0w..

I have upgraded my iPhone 3G to OS 3.0 and have jailboke it with Redsn0w. I have T-mobile but am unable to obtain a signal. My question is the following:

For people having problems with getting a zip file when downloading the firmware, use firefox to download. I was using IE 8 and it was downloading as a zip file. Firefox downloaded the firmware as a proper .ipsw file.
I am using vista, what am I suppose to do when it’s asking for IPSW and I’m trying to browse for the file and it’s don’t detect the file I downloaded from the link you posted above? I tried extracting all the file to put on the desktop as well but it’s not moving the ‘Firmware’ file. Saying I already have a file with the same name. Please HELP!! I thought it’s suppose to detect the file by itself without me browse for it.
Thanks dslayer, it worked using firefox instead of IE 8. But I have a problem again, i got to step 9 and I held the buttons as directed. When all buttons have been push, it stated that there was not device detected, now my iphone doesn’t turn on!!! What do I do??!?!

Ok need help. i unlocked my iphone and everything is fine. However my phone still has music, photos and apps from a previous owner. When i try to sync it with itunes it tells me ” this itunes library has a different owner from the phones music ,apps etc… It then asks if i want to sync it will delete my iphone and basically reinstall everything so i would be able to synch my apps and music. If i do this 1. would it screw up my phone. 2. would i have to unlock it again after it reinstalled everything? . thanks cojo

@cojo It should delete only your current library (music, videos, pics etc) and not your jailbroken firmware.. So its ok if you create a new iPhone and sync ur music again..
@ghetto_ken_doll Hi the ones you see on ebay are legally unlocked aka factory unlocked iPhone 3gs.. In some countries iPhones are sold legally without being locked to a particular carrier.. It’s an excellent option as you never need to worry about unlocking your iPhone.. However, the downside is that you need to pay a premium..A huuuuge premium.. The prices on ebay will tell u the story :)
