How to install Siri on iPhone 4, iPod Touch and other older devices

by Rohit on December 27, 2011

Ever since the iPhone 4S released, I kept hoping against hopes that the Jailbreak community would come up with some kind of solution to port it to the iPhone 4 and other older devices. Fortunately, Ryan Petrich and Chpwn were not just hoping but working their magic to get the fascinating assistant working on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G and first generation iPad. Seems like all their hard work has paid off as they have not just managed to successfully port Siri to older devices but also found a legal way to do so!

I bet you guys can’t wait to get it up and running on your iDevice. However, before you go on to do that, please make sure you are on a Jailbroken iOS device running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 firmware. Just in case you have installed Semi-Tether app please uninstall it before installing Siri.

If your iDevice meets the above requirements, please follow the instructions below to install Siri on your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G or first generation iPad.

i) Tap on Cydia from your homescreen.

ii) Go to the search tab in cydia and type Spire.

Siri on iPhone4

iii) Choose Spire from the search results and tap on install. (Please make sure you are on Wi-Fi as it’s going to be a 100 MB+ download).

iv) Once the app installs, you will have to reboot your device and start it again using redsn0w as it’s going to be a tethered boot.

v) After rebooting, launch settings app and tap on Spire in the settings menu.

Siri Settings

vi) Here you will have to enter a proxy host (You will have to google and find proxy list for Spire)

Siri Spire Proxy

vii) Once you find and enter a valid Spire proxy host, Siri will be configured on your iPhone. Congrats!

Note: If you have access to an iPhone 4S you can create your own proxy server.

By using this SiriProxy fork, you can setup a proxy using your own iPhone 4S to insert the needed information reasonably easily. Other solutions for proxying Siri will be listed here as they are developed – perhaps that sort of proxy might be included in the main SiriProxy repository.

On the other hand if you dont, just find a 3rd party proxy for Spire via google. It may not be immediately available but in days to come, I am sure there will be many folks releasing their own 3rd party proxy servers for people to connect to.

still, unable to use SPIRE due to proxy server requirement, google won’t give any results for proxy server..

at the end of the day, still NO SIRI for non-iPhone 4S.

@Bon This should give you and others more clarity. It’s straight from the horse’s mouth(Chpwn)

“There’s any number of ways for you to get a proxy that will help you connect Siri to Apple. Here’s a few of my ideas:

westbaer’s SiriProxy fork

Own an iPhone 4S too: Maybe you already own an iPhone 4S, and just want Siri on another device of yours. This is simple; you can just use the above proxy yourself.

Find a friend: Maybe your friend has an iPhone 4S and will let you use their authentication tokens (maybe in exchange for some cool SiriProxy plugins). Then, you can share the authentication. Or, maybe you gave your relative your old iPhone when you got your iPhone 4S: now you can share your token and give them Siri.

Pay up: It’s very likely that soon we will see for-pay services online to rent you some space on a Siri proxy, attached to one of their iPhone 4S devices. I haven’t seen anything like this yet, but I’ll keep my eye out, and I would encourage anyone who is interested to set something like this up.

And now for something completely different: As I suggested earlier, you might be able to replace Siri entirely. A simple method might be to use Google Chrome’s speech “API” hooked up to some code to decode the Siri requests and parse Google’s result. Or, someone could hook it up to some logic backends like many of the clones available on Android: the possibilities are endless.”

Well, heres a list of proxy hosts. there aren’t many now, and apparently they are being updated as they find them. they also aren’t guaranteeing them to work, but might as well give a few of them a shot. http://1b4851b5.tinylinks.co
