How to delete Cydia applications directly from Springboard

by Rohit on October 19, 2009

CyDelete app by Dustin Howett let’s you directly delete Cydia apps from springboard. You just need to hold a springboard icon down and tap on the X and the app is uninstalled. To reinstall, load Cydia and install the app again.

CyDelete v2.0.1 brings some new things to the table

  • Completely rewritten core.
  • Uninstallations are now done in the background (in a queue); there is no more waiting while processing/uninstalling a package.
  • Increased compatibility with other tweaks, including Stack and PogoPlank

Here are the steps on how to install the app:

  • Tap on Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone.
  • At the bottom of Cydia, you will find a search button, click on it and search for CyDelete

  • Click on the ‘install’ button at the top right corner and then tap on confirm in the following screen.
  • Tap on restart your springboard.
  • Once this is done, you will notice that you can directly uninstall cydia applications from springboard.

In this example, when I tap on MxTube I see a red X mark and I can just tap on it to delete MxTube without having to get into Cydia > Manage > Packages and clicking on uninstall.

Another download and install.

Request: Can you do a tutorial on how to do custom backgrounds per page on the iphone?

@John Hi there!

I found a custom background per page tutorial online. It’s not crystal clear, but I reckon it’s neat enough. See if it helps.

Thanks for the link. I actually found that tut as well but it’s not for a windows based user. I’ve tried a few methods however to no avail. Even the old Finder application isn’t working. By placing the files in the proper folders and forcing them to recognize isn’t working. There must be a new method or missing something for the 3.1.2 version phones. Thanks for the help and time it took to look it up though. It’s still appreciated.

Hi John

I tried out the tutorial on MAC and it didn’t work. Infact my cydia crashed and I had to re-jailbreak. I guess it has something to do with 3.1.2 firmware. Perhaps an update is needed. If I find an alternative method I will let you know. Cheers :)

Thanks it only confirms what I originally thought.
Also a heads up the keyboard skins don’t work anymore with the latest 3.1.2 firmware. I have been trying to fix this as well with still no such luck.

BTW: nice find with the voice recognition.
Another one added to my phone ;)
