Easy way to enable tethering on iPhone 3G/3GS 3.1.2 Firmware

by Rohit on October 21, 2009

Last week, MuscleNerd released two patches to enable Internet tethering on iPhone 3G and 3GS. iPhone users were excited that they could finally get their tethering back.

However, the process was tedious, could be performed only on the MAC and required knowledge of the Terminal.

Looking at these shortcomings, Andre Sendowski decided to release a free Cydia package for enabling the Tethering on iPhone 3G/3GS firmware 3.1.2 the easy way!

1) Tap on Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone.

2) Choose Manage tab on the bottom of the screen.

3) Select Sources.

4) On the top-right corner you will find edit button, select that and then tap add button. You will be asked to enter a url. Enter apt.iphone-storage.de and tap on add sources.

5) Cydia then updates your sources.

6) Once this is done. Tap on search at the bottom of cydia and in the search box look for tethering 3G – 3.1.2 or tethering 3GS – 3.1.2. (Choose the package based on which iPhone you own -3G or 3GS) and install it.

7) Reboot your iPhone and then browse to the site www.unlockit.co.nz via iPhone Safari browser to create a custom APN.

8 ) Congrats you just tethered your iPhone.

I think this disables visual voicemail, like the help.benm.at profile did in the past. Anyone else have this issue? I am going to try a network settings reset, as that was the previous solution.

Worked for me on AT&T, and Visual Voicemail is still functioning correctly (crossing fingers that it holds up)

Well my VVM does not work with the profile installed, even after a network setting reset. Oh well, i just uninstall the profile and re-install when i need tethering.

The guy at http://www.unlockit.co.nz said he will do a new profile that leaves VVM working soon.

When I type in the Source, I get the following message box: “Did not Find Repository”… Anyone get this? If so, how do you get past it?
