Coming soon – iPhone FM radio app

by Srikanth on October 14, 2009

Yes! like most of you would have guessed it, the new iPod Nano’s FM tuner will soon make it’s way into iPhone and iPod Touch in the form of an app.

The app is being developed in-house by Apple themselves and will run in the background like the iPod app. Expect features like ‘Live pause’ already present on iPod Nano.

Apple is also trying to incorporate the Mobile iTunes music purchase in this app. Imagine, you are listening to a song on the radio (which supports tagging and you are in US ofcourse) and on the touch of a button you are shown details about the song in the Mobile iTunes store and you can purchase it in an instant.

iPhone and iPod Touch are very much capable of receiving FM for sometime now and the latest gen models can even transmit FM. So its about time Apple put to good use some wonderful features of the iPhone.

So, all you iPhone and iPod Touch users no longer need to envy the Zune HD for its FM radio capabilities!

@Sebastien
I have used Tuner and Pandora, but what excites me about this is you can run it in the background. Since its from Apple I’m sure it will be closely integrated with the iTunes Store.
