CNN just launched CNN Mobile app for the iPhone which puts any other single-source news app to shame..really!
It brings in a multitude of features like video on demand (VOD), live streaming video, offline mode, location specific news, weather, traffic updates and many more.
This overdose of features are never in-your-face and the interface is always intuitive and easy to use. For example, when the iPhone is in landscape mode the headlines are presented in CoverFlow style, which is a very unique way to quickly glance through all the latest news.
In My CNN you can ‘follow’ interesting news and you will also receive latest updates via push. Another nifty feature is to save the content to view it later offline. Of course, social media sharing is integrated in the app so that you can share it on Twitter, Facebook, SMS, email instantly.
The best feature of this app is undoubtedly video. You get video on demand of recent newscasts to choose from a catalog. Live video streaming is also available over Wi-Fi or 3G/Edge. (You are notified about this by a “Hey, CNN’s live right now,” push message).
A feature which CNN is highlighting more than the others is the iReport which lets you report on events happening around you by uploading stories, photos, videos directly from your iPhone.
This is a complete news package which any news junkie would love. However, this comes at a price, $2 to be precise. You might be interested to know that despite being a paid app it has un-intrusive ads. Some say it should either be free with ads or it should be paid and ad free, while others are suggesting its not a big deal and $2 with ads is still a good price for this app. We will let you decide.
