With the new Release Candidate, Firefox tries to achieve the same functionality through its crash proofing and plug-in isolation mechanism. So let’s say, you were watching a flash video and the flash plugin crashes. Unlike, previous versions of firefox which would react to this by crashing the entire browser, the 3.6.4 release candidate isolates the flash plugin page and preserves the rest of the browsing session.

Opera fans will be thrilled to know that the latest alpha build of the browser has been released for Windows, Mac and Linux users. The new build flaunts performance improvements in CSS, DOM and Javascript. It’s also 76% better than Opera 10.5 when it comes to PeaceKeeper benchmark.

Google is all set to take the Smartphone world by storm courtesy Nexus One. According to Reuters, the Google Phone will be released as early as Jan 5th, 2010!

Here’s a tutorial on how to enable Google Maps Navigation in the UK on Android 1.6 for free!

1) Download modified version of Google Maps on your computer from here.

2) Copy the file to the micro SD card on your Android 1.6 device (make sure you have an updated version, if not install the 1.6 Donut upgrade) by connecting it to your PC using a USB cable.

3) Once the file gets copied, remove the USB cable from your phone.

4) Now open ApkInstaller (Download it from the ‘Android Market’ if you don’t already have it on your phone) and then install the modified version of Google Maps by opening the file that you copied in step 2.

5) If you see a message on your phone asking you whether you want to install the non-Android Market app. Click ‘OK’.

6) Once the installation completes, go to the menu screen where you will find two Map icons. Click on the second map icon and enter a direction query.

7) You will be presented with two options ‘Show on map’ and ‘Navigate’. Click on Navigate button.

8 ) Congrats, you just enabled Google Maps navigation in the UK on your Android 1.6!

I’ve quite often seen heated discussion in forums about Resistive touch vs. Capacitive touch displays.

All the geeks would vouch for the accuracy of resistive touch while others would argue capacitive touch screens are more user friendly, case in point Apple iPhone’s touch-screen, which has forced most mobile manufacturers to adopt Capacitive touch in all of their devices.

Now, we have proof-of-concept that Resistive touch-screens can indeed outshine Capacitive touch-screen displays. Stantum Japan showed off its Slate PC which employs their TouchPark Multi-touch interface and it clearly blows anything on the market today.

Check out the video where they have retrofitted a Dell Mini 10 with their touch-based input device.

If you felt the response isn’t up to the mark, blame it on the hardware. You can check this other video where this system has been implemented for smart phone like device and has no traces of ‘jitters’ often seen on Resistive touch-screens.

It offers incredible accuracy, pressure sensitivity, multi-touch gestures and can be used with almost any contact object for input.
