This holiday season is certainly proving out to be a delight for the Jailbreak community. Earlier today, Ryan Petrich and Chpwn released a legal siri port to iPhone 4 and other older iOS devices. Now Pod2g has joined the party by releasing the much awaited untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G and first generation iPad with the help of Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team.

In order to jailbreak (untethered) your iDevice, please make sure that it’s running on iOS 5.0.1 firmware. If it isn’t then check the download links at the bottom of this post to download and install the firmware. Once you are done, follow the guide below:

1) Download Redsn0w.
redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for OS X
redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for Windows

2) Double click on Redsn0w and click on the jailbreak button.

3) Put your iPhone in DFU mode by following the instructions in redsn0w

Hold the power button for 3 seconds.

Without releasing the power button, hold the home button for 10 seconds.

Release the power button but continue to hold the home button for 15 seconds.

4) The Jailbreak process will now begin. Once it’s done, the iPhone will reboot on it’s own and you will find cydia installed.

5) Congrats you have just jailbroken your iPhone. Go ahead and reboot to check whether it is untethered :)

iOS 5.0.1 download files below:

Ever since the iPhone 4S released, I kept hoping against hopes that the Jailbreak community would come up with some kind of solution to port it to the iPhone 4 and other older devices. Fortunately, Ryan Petrich and Chpwn were not just hoping but working their magic to get the fascinating assistant working on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G and first generation iPad. Seems like all their hard work has paid off as they have not just managed to successfully port Siri to older devices but also found a legal way to do so!

I bet you guys can’t wait to get it up and running on your iDevice. However, before you go on to do that, please make sure you are on a Jailbroken iOS device running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 firmware. Just in case you have installed Semi-Tether app please uninstall it before installing Siri.

If your iDevice meets the above requirements, please follow the instructions below to install Siri on your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G or first generation iPad.

i) Tap on Cydia from your homescreen.

ii) Go to the search tab in cydia and type Spire.

iii) Choose Spire from the search results and tap on install. (Please make sure you are on Wi-Fi as it’s going to be a 100 MB+ download).

iv) Once the app installs, you will have to reboot your device and start it again using redsn0w as it’s going to be a tethered boot.

v) After rebooting, launch settings app and tap on Spire in the settings menu.

vi) Here you will have to enter a proxy host (You will have to google and find proxy list for Spire)

vii) Once you find and enter a valid Spire proxy host, Siri will be configured on your iPhone. Congrats!

Note: If you have access to an iPhone 4S you can create your own proxy server.

By using this SiriProxy fork, you can setup a proxy using your own iPhone 4S to insert the needed information reasonably easily. Other solutions for proxying Siri will be listed here as they are developed – perhaps that sort of proxy might be included in the main SiriProxy repository.

On the other hand if you dont, just find a 3rd party proxy for Spire via google. It may not be immediately available but in days to come, I am sure there will be many folks releasing their own 3rd party proxy servers for people to connect to.

Have you been waiting for the convenience of an untethered jailbreak? Does the idea of having to run a jailbreak everytime you reboot the iPhone annoy you?

Look no further then, GreenPoison has released their untethered iPhone jailbreak tool which means you can now have a jailbreak without the fear of getting stuck on apple logo every time you restart your iPhone. The jailbreak works specifically on iPhone 4.2.1.

Here are the instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone using GreenPois0n jailbreak tool

1) You got to make sure that you are on 4.2.1 firmware as the jailbreak wont work for any other firmware version.

2) Head to GreenPois0n website and download the jailbreak tool.

3) Connect your iPhone to the PC/Mac using the USB cable.

4) Open the downloaded GreenPois0n jailbreak tool and click on the jailbreak button that you see on it.

5) The moment you click the jailbreak button, you will be provided instructions to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

You will be asked to press and hold the sleep (power) button for 3 seconds.

Continue holding sleep; press and hold home for 10 seconds.

Release sleep button; Continue holding the home button. Make sure you don’t release the Home button at this point.

6) Once your iPhone successfully enters DFU mode, the jailbreak process will begin automatically.

7) Once the jailbreak process is complete, you will see a loader icon on your iPhone. Tap on it and install cydia.

8) After installation, restart your iPhone and then run Cydia.

9) Congrats, you have just jailbroken your iPhone :)

Still confused? Check this video tutorial posted by RedmondPie to get a better idea about the process.

The long awaited unlock for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS is finally out! Kudos to the iPhone Dev-Team for re-creating their magic unlock tool – UltraSn0w.

In order to unlock your iPhone, i.e. enable it to work on any carrier/network, you will have to jailbreak it. Jailbreaking used to be a painstaking process in the past; however, now it’s just a cake walk.

All you gotta do is visit jailbreakme.com via safari on your iPhone. Once on the site, just slide to jailbreak your iPhone.

Once you are done jailbreaking your iPhone, follow the guide below to unlock it

1) Tap on cydia.

2) Then Tap on manage tab at the bottom and choose sources

3) On the top-right corner you will find edit button, select that and then tap add button. You will be asked to enter a url. Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and tap on add sources. (That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.)

4) Cydia then updates your sources.

5) Once this is done. Tap on search at the bottom of cydia and in the search box look for ultrasn0w.(0 in the word is number zero and not letter o).

6) Now select ultrasn0w and install it. (T-Mobile users should disable 3G before installing ultrasnow).

<img class="aligncenter" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_71rKcYm-vbk/TFl0bfCTDSI/AAAAAAAAAQg/Q48SHnrB42A/ultrasnownew.png alt="" width="275" height="411" />

7) Reboot your iPhone.

8) Congrats, you have now unlocked your iPhone! Just pop in any networks sim into your iPhone and you should be good to go.

If for some reason you still can’t make any sense outta the tutorial, just check the video below to get a better idea.

<p style="text-align: center;"

Seems like AT&T always has an ace up its sleeve when it comes to annoying iDevice customers. The latest victim being iPad users. The $29.99 truly unlimited monthly plan for iPad is no longer available to new customers; however, existing customers can choose to stay on the unlimited plan or opt for DataPro plan.

On the pretext of offering affordable mobile internet, AT&T has killed unlimited plans and now just provides two plans called DataPlus and DataPro ($15 per month for 200MB and $25 for 2GB respectively).

No unlimited plan for iPhone is understandable but for a device like iPad which is always data hungry, the removal of unlimited plan is completely unacceptable.

Here’s AT&T’s press release:

We’re definitely mourning the death of unlimited data — “unlimited” is a word that consumers always naturally like to hear — but AT&T points out that 98 percent of its smartphone subscribers use less than 2GB a month, which means that nearly all users ultimately stand to see a $5 reduction in their monthly bills. We spoke to Mark Collins — AT&T Mobility’s senior vice president of data and voice products — about the changes for a few clarifications on the company’s strategy, and he made it crystal clear that the concept of unlimited data is a thing in the past (echoing comments made recently by Verizon’s Lowell McAdam), particularly in light of the oncoming spectrum crunch that stands to make wireless broadband an even more precious commodity than it already is. He also mentioned that laptop plans are unaffected by this move, though he went on to say that they’ve laid a “framework” for data pricing here that should continue all the way through to the company’s LTE rollout, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see some tweaks made on the laptop side sooner or later (to reduce overage fees, if nothing else).

We mentioned that the change stands to hurt a few users, and it’s true — we’re extremely heavy smartphone users here, for example, and we’re hard-pressed to break even a gigabyte of usage in a month; anyone doing a boatload of video streaming though, or lacking access to WiFi at home and the office (AT&T’s quick to boast about its 20,000-odd hotspots) might find themselves regularly slamming headlong into that 2GB cap, and there won’t be any option but to buy overage. For what it’s worth, Collins pointed out to us that the plans will feature automatic text and email alerts at 65, 90, and 100 percent usage of your monthly allowance (and at 75 and 100 percent usage of each overage purchase), so it should be pretty easy to keep an eye on things and make sure you don’t break the bank.

Now, Speed Dial fits most monitors better with wide-screen thumbnails for your favorite web pages, giving a clearer preview view of websites.

Improved tab previews
The visual “peek” effect when hovering over tabs looks more refined with smoothly rounded corners and a clear display of page titles.

A more visible menu button
The Opera menu button for Windows, Linux and FreeBSD users is now clearly labeled so that it is easier to find and use.

Linux/FreeBSD versions
Opera 10.5x final has been skipped, but all its new features will be included in Opera 10.60. This includes private browsing, improved KDE and Gnome skinning, and much more.
